Jerry's Story

After decades away, Jerry re-entered society in March and found himself facing the challenge of starting over. Joining the Back 2 Work (B2W) program became the foundation for his transformation. “B2W taught me the value of networking and seeking help. Fully engaging in the program changed my life in ways I never thought possible,” Jerry said. Embracing second chances wasn’t easy, but Jerry committed to the program's demands. “This program gives back what you put into it. It’s not an easy road, but for those willing to work hard, it provides the guidance we often lack,” he shared. Through B2W, Jerry gained certifications like OSHA, financial assistance, and job-readiness training. Now stepping into a supervisory role for the first time, he continues to learn and grow. “What I value most is the relationships I’ve built and the opportunity to share my experiences with others. Encouraging my peers has been one of the greatest blessings of this journey,” he said. Aamit's Story

For Aamit, Back 2 Work is a platform for transformation empowering individuals and communities. Reflecting on the program’s impact, Aamit shares, “Having a criminal record doesn’t define who you are. Back 2 Work provides second chances, helping people rebuild their lives and contribute to society.” Since joining, Aamit has experienced remarkable personal growth, gaining a new perspective on life and finding fulfillment in helping others. He’s learned patience, understanding that everyone grows at their own pace, and honed multitasking skills critical in a professional environment. A defining moment in his journey was advocating for $30 million in workforce development funding at the governor’s office, an experience that sparked his passion for advocacy and political engagement. “Representing voices that often go unheard was an honor,” he said. Aamit’s story highlights Back 2 Work’s mission: fostering resilience, growth, and the power of second chances.

David's Story

David’s journey demonstrates resilience and the power of community support. When he joined the Back 2 Work program, he was struggling with direction but found the structure and encouragement he needed at a PACT meeting. Reflecting on his early days, David recalled receiving a jacket on a cold winter day, a simple act symbolizing the program’s care during a tough time. Beyond material aid, the program provided tools to address mental health and financial challenges. These resources helped David reshape his mindset and develop healthier coping strategies, allowing him to face challenges with renewed hope. Since joining, David has achieved significant milestones, including his role as an Office Assistant at CEO and being released from parole. His personal philosophy reflects his transformation: “The seed inside a spoiled apple can still flourish into a new, bright apple.” For David, this symbolizes the potential for growth and renewal, no matter the past. With support from CEO and Back 2 Work, David has rewritten his story and now inspires others to embrace their potential for change.

Alan's Story

After 28 years in prison, Alan struggled to find a job, facing stress and uncertainty. That changed when he turned to Chrysalis in San Bernardino. They provided not just job opportunities but essential resources like interview workshops, gas cards, and work clothes, helping him support his family and rebuild his life. With guidance from his supervisor, Alan gained confidence, developed a strong work ethic, and found purpose. Chrysalis’s scholarship program enabled him to earn his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), unlocking new opportunities. Now a Supervisor and Peer Mentor Specialist, Alan embodies values like respect, integrity, and self-discipline. "Thanks to Chrysalis, I can support my family and inspire others to keep pushing forward," he shared. Alan’s story highlights the power of second chances and the impact of resilience and support in transforming lives.

“The mission statement of Five Keys, with its emphasis on education, employment, recovery, family, and community, has played a pivotal role in strengthening my relationship with my children and society. Through their commitment to education, this program has empowered me to provide my children with valuable learning opportunities. Moreover, the focus on employment and recovery has enabled me to contribute to society and inspire others on their own paths of growth and transformation. Being incarcerated for over ten years I questioned my ability to adapt to a new way of living, but this has helped me overcome that fear.
