Breaking Into the Growing IT Tech Industry

Breaking Into the Growing IT Tech Industry

Our pre-apprenticeship journey began in 2019 when Back 2 Work partnered with a local tech company in the Central Valley. This collaboration provided individuals from marginalized communities the opportunity to gain essential skills for entering the tech industry through a 14-week comprehensive Salesforce course. Participants gained practical experience in software application design, development, learning design principles, and maintenance techniques.

With the support of pre-apprenticeship funding from the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office, through the California Apprenticeship Initiative (CAI) New and Innovative Grant Program, we’ve been able to broaden our program. Our pre-apprenticeship now connects Back 2 Work participants with Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs) across California, in fields such as technology, automotive, manufacturing, agriculture, and health and social services.

Our program has evolved into an accelerated training model that recognizes participants' prior learning through career readiness workshops. Working with Feather River Community College, we’ve developed a curriculum that not only upskills our participants but also provides them with exposure to higher education and college credits toward certificates. This partnership offers a pathway for participants to build their expertise while earning recognition for their efforts.

Mark your calendars for the launch of our next IT pre-apprenticeship cohort starting on October 21st! Don't miss this opportunity to boost your skills and open doors to new career opportunities.

If you can’t join this cohort, no worries! We offer self-paced, independent study options to fit your schedule.

Pre-Apprentice Testimonial
Meet Timothy Hoskins

Timothy Hoskins, a dedicated maintanence employee, had to take a break from work due to an injury. During this time, he discovered the B2W IT pre-apprenticeship program through Bay Valley Tech. With no prior IT experience and looking for a less physically demanding career, Timothy decided to take a chance and enroll in the course.

Though the initial week was challenging, Timothy received unwavering support from Darrell, our Back 2 Work Operations Coordinator and instructor. Reflecting on his journey, Timothy shared, "Darrell's encouragement truly made a world of difference. His belief in me kept me going."
Now, equipped with new skills and a renewed sense of purpose, Timothy is optimistic about his future and excited to transition into a career where he can help others. He extends his heartfelt thanks to Justo, RayAnn, Ruth, Joycelene, and Darrell for their constant support throughout his journey.
